Infant Formula Safety Modernization Act of 2026

This bill requires baby formula makers to do more testing for dangerous germs, like the ones that cause botulism and salmonella, not just in the finished formula but also in the factories where formula is made. Right now, manufacturers only have to test the final product, but this bill would make them test their own facilities too and keep records of any contaminated results. Manufacturers would also have to tell the FDA within one business day if they find dangerous germs in a finished formula product, even if that product hasn't left the factory yet, and the FDA would then have to notify Congress within one business day. The bill also requires the FDA to apply the same inspection rules to all baby formula, including formula that comes from other countries.
