Forever Chemical Regulation and Accountability Act of 2026

This bill aims to gradually stop the use of certain long-lasting chemicals called PFAS in products and the environment over a 10-year period, except when those chemicals are considered essential for health or safety reasons. Companies that make or use PFAS would have to file yearly reports with the Environmental Protection Agency about how they use these chemicals, and federal agencies would need to stop buying products that contain them whenever possible. The bill gives the EPA power to punish companies that break these rules, including through fines and criminal charges, and it lets regular people file lawsuits against companies or the EPA over PFAS-related issues. It also includes rules about how PFAS-related legal claims are handled in bankruptcy cases, making sure certain proceedings can move forward even when a company has filed for bankruptcy.
