Restoring Executive Branch Authorities to Oversee Offices of the United States Attorneys Act of 2026

Right now, when a U.S. Attorney position is empty, the Attorney General can temporarily fill it for up to 120 days, and if no permanent replacement is confirmed by the Senate after that, a federal court can step in and appoint someone to serve until the job is filled. This bill would take away the courts' power to make those appointments and instead let the Attorney General keep appointing temporary U.S. Attorneys in repeated 120-day stretches for as long as needed.
