Perinatal Workforce Act

This bill creates programs to make the group of health care workers who help mothers before, during, and after birth more diverse. The Department of Health and Human Services would give grants to education and training programs for these workers and share guidance on how to provide respectful care to mothers, including hiring care providers from different backgrounds. The National Institutes of Health would study the best ways to provide maternity care that respects patients' cultures, languages, and beliefs. The Government Accountability Office would also have to report on what makes it hard for low-income women and minority women to enter these health care jobs.
