Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Reauthorization Act of 2026

This bill extends funding through 2031 for programs that support research into drugs and treatments for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) and other brain and nerve diseases. It continues grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration for studying new drugs and therapies, including for people who can't participate in regular clinical trials. The bill also requires the NIH to check on the safety of experimental drugs being studied and requires researchers to quickly report any serious unexpected side effects. The FDA must publish a five-year plan explaining how it will help develop new treatments and make experimental drugs more accessible for ALS and other rare brain and nerve diseases, and later report on what actions it has taken.
