Parents Decide Act

This bill would require companies that make operating systems — the basic software that runs computers, phones, and other devices — to ask users for their date of birth when setting up an account. If a user is under 18, a parent or legal guardian would need to verify that information. Operating system makers would also have to create a way for app developers to check a user's age. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would enforce these rules, create regulations about how age verification and data security should work, and report to Congress on how the requirements are being carried out.
