Promoting Access to Local Agriculture Act of 2026

This bill requires the Department of Agriculture to make it easier for farmers and ranchers to sign up as approved sellers in federal food assistance programs like SNAP, WIC, and programs that help seniors and others buy fresh food. Instead of filling out separate applications for each program, farmers would be able to use a single application or a system that shares their information across programs. The bill also requires the government to simplify the technology farmers use to accept program benefits, such as by providing one piece of equipment or a mobile app that works for all the programs. The equipment and technology must be suited to the needs of places like farmers markets and other settings where farmers sell directly to customers.
