ZOMBIE Act

This bill, called the ZOMBIE Act, changes how the federal government tracks and reports payments it makes by mistake, specifically focusing on mistakes that cause the government to lose money. It does not count payments that went to the right person for the right amount but had minor paperwork issues. The bill requires agencies to check their programs every three years for the risk of these kinds of payment errors, report what they are doing to prevent them, and include estimates of these errors in their budget plans. It also increases the amount of money recovered from payment mistakes that can be sent back to the program where the mistake happened, raising the limit from 25% to 75%.
