BLOCK Act

This bill would end specific funding formulas for education programs run by the Department of Education on October 1, 2025. Starting in 2026, the Department would instead give states block grants based on what they received in 2025. The bill affects many programs including those for disadvantaged students, migrant education, English language learners, rural schools, after-school programs, and Indian education. Instead of following detailed federal rules about how money is distributed, states would receive lump sum payments.
