Next-Generation Geothermal Research and Development Act

This bill tells the Department of Energy to support the development of newer types of geothermal energy systems, which use heat from deep underground to produce energy. It sets up programs for research, testing, grants, and data collection related to these systems, including expanding existing research sites and creating a new center of excellence focused on next-generation geothermal technology. The bill also requires the Department of Energy to expand and update a public database of underground drilling information, including data from fossil fuel and mining operations. Additionally, it allows the Department of the Interior to approve drilling of deep exploration holes in certain areas to help map underground heat for geothermal development.
