Smoke and Heat Ready Communities Act of 2025

What this bill does

AI plain-language summary

This bill allows the Environmental Protection Agency to give grants to air pollution control agencies to help local communities deal with wildfire smoke and extreme heat. The EPA would create a formula to decide how to distribute these grants. The bill also requires the EPA to set up four research centers at colleges to study how wildfire smoke and extreme heat affect public health and how communities can better respond to these problems. Additionally, the EPA must research the health effects of wildfire smoke and extreme heat, create ways for people and communities to protect themselves, improve monitoring and prediction tools, and develop better communication strategies. The EPA would also create a competitive grant program to help states and other groups develop community plans for dealing with wildfire smoke and extreme heat.
