9–8–8 Lifeline Cybersecurity Responsibility Act

This bill requires the agency that oversees the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — a phone number people can call when they are in a mental health crisis — to take steps to protect it from cybersecurity threats like hacking or other digital attacks. Crisis centers that are part of the lifeline must report any cybersecurity problems to the organization that runs the network, and that organization must then report those problems to the federal agency in charge. The bill also requires a government watchdog office to study the cybersecurity risks facing the lifeline and share its findings with Congress.
