Protect College Sports Act of 2026

This bill sets rules for how college athletes can make money from their name, image, or likeness (known as NIL deals). It says schools and sports organizations cannot stop athletes from making these deals, but athletes must report any NIL pay over $600, and agents who help them are limited to charging no more than 5% in fees. The bill also gives student athletes one free transfer to another school without losing their ability to play sports, puts a cap on how much schools can pay athletes directly (with that cap adjusted each year for inflation), and stops football coaches from leaving to lead another team mid-season. Finally, it allows schools and conferences to team up to sell their TV broadcasting rights together without violating antitrust laws, as long as at least 75% of the top-level football schools participate.
