Latonya Reeves Freedom Act of 2026

This bill says that government agencies and insurance companies cannot deny community-based services to people with disabilities who need long-term help to live independently in their communities. It bars practices like using unfair eligibility rules, spending caps, or waiting lists to block access to these services, and it requires that community-based options be offered before placing someone in an institution. People already living in institutions must be regularly told about community-based alternatives available to them. The bill also requires the Department of Justice to create rules for offering these services, requires government agencies to make sure enough affordable and accessible housing is available, and allows people to file lawsuits if their rights under this bill are violated.
