Essential Caregivers Act of 2026

This bill says that nursing homes and long-term care facilities must let residents choose two essential caregivers who can visit them in person, even during times when regular visits are restricted. These facilities include those covered by Medicare and Medicaid, such as skilled nursing homes, long-term care hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. The facilities can only limit caregiver access based on official government guidance, and caregivers must follow the same safety rules that the facility's own staff follow.
