This resolution says the House of Representatives believes the federal government should make a big effort to lower the number of people in prison and change the American legal system. It calls for talking with people and communities affected by the justice system, making some behaviors no longer criminal, changing sentencing laws, and reducing things that cause people to end up back in prison. It also calls for ending practices that give advantages to wealthier people, stopping private companies from making money off the criminal justice system, ending military-style policing, investing in other safety services, and creating policies that help communities hit hardest by high incarceration rates.
