Red Snapper Act of 2025

This bill stops NOAA from closing off fishing areas or restricting bottom fishing for certain fish species in the South Atlantic, including red snapper, grouper, and porgy. These restrictions cannot be put in place until a major study called the South Atlantic Great Red Snapper Count is finished and its findings are included in the next official fish population assessment for the region. Normally, these kinds of closures are used to limit recreational and commercial fishing to prevent overfishing and protect fish populations.
