NO FAKES Act of 2025

This bill creates a new federal right that protects people from having their voice or appearance copied digitally without permission, such as through artificial intelligence. The right to control these digital copies cannot be sold but can be licensed, and it continues even after a person dies. Anyone who shares or uses an unauthorized digital copy of someone's voice or likeness can be sued, though certain uses like news reporting, sports broadcasts, and satire are allowed. The bill also sets up a system for getting unauthorized digital copies taken down and replaces most state laws on this topic, except for state laws that were already in place before January 2, 2025.
