Content Origin Protection and Integrity from Edited and Deepfaked Media Act of 2025

This bill would require certain tools, including artificial intelligence, that are used to create or change digital content to let users attach information showing where the content came from and how it was changed. Big websites and social media apps would not be allowed to remove or tamper with that tracking information, and no one could remove it as part of a deceptive business practice. The bill also says that digital copies of copyrighted work with this tracking information cannot be used to train AI systems or create AI-generated content without the copyright owner's permission. The Federal Trade Commission, state officials, and copyright owners could all take legal action to enforce these rules.
