Combating Organized Retail Crime Act

This bill gives the federal government more tools to go after organized retail theft and cargo theft crimes. It allows prosecutors to add up the value of stolen items over a 12-month period when bringing charges, and it lets them use money laundering laws and seize property connected to these crimes. The bill also updates money laundering laws to cover crimes involving prepaid cards, gift certificates, and store gift cards. Finally, it creates a temporary center within the Department of Homeland Security to help coordinate law enforcement efforts against organized retail and supply chain crime.
