ASCEND Act

This bill officially establishes a NASA program called the Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition program, which allows NASA to buy satellite images and data about Earth's surface from private companies to support its science research. The bill lets NASA share this data broadly with other government agencies and people outside of NASA, and it says the data cannot be kept from being published for scientific purposes. The bill also says that NASA should, when possible, buy this data from American companies.
