Credit Access and Inclusion Act of 2025

This bill would allow information about people paying their rent, utilities, or phone bills on time to be shared with credit reporting companies, which could help those consumers build their credit histories. The Department of Housing and Urban Development or other parties could report this payment information, but they can only share details related to whether someone is making their payments, not details about how much of a service they use. If someone has set up a payment plan with an energy company and is keeping up with it, the company cannot report their balance as late. The bill also says that certain legal protections that let consumers sue over mistakes in reported information would not apply here, and it requires a government office to study how this reporting affects consumers.
