Assault Weapons Ban of 2025

This bill would make it illegal to import, sell, make, transfer, or own certain semiautomatic weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. There are exceptions for things like law enforcement use, antique firearms, manually operated guns, and weapons that are permanently unable to fire. People who already own these weapons before the ban could keep them but would need to store them securely, and sales of previously owned weapons between private individuals would require a background check through a licensed gun dealer. The bill would also let state and local governments use certain federal grant money to set up buy-back programs where people can turn in these weapons for compensation.
