DEFIANCE Act of 2025

This bill deals with fake intimate images of people, often called deepfakes, and real intimate images shared without someone's permission. It lets people sue in federal court if someone creates, shares, or plans to share realistic-looking fake intimate images of them made with tools like artificial intelligence, without their consent. The bill also increases the money people can recover in these lawsuits, including punitive damages and any profits the person responsible made from sharing the images. People have 10 years to file a lawsuit, starting either when they find out about the violation or when they turn 18, whichever comes later.
