Illegal Red Snapper and Tuna Enforcement Act

This bill requires two government agencies, NOAA and NIST, to work together to create a method using chemical testing to figure out what country seafood comes from, which would help stop illegal and unreported fishing. The method must include a portable testing kit and should work on prepared foods like sushi, and it must first be tested on red snapper and tuna. Within two years, NIST must send Congress a report on how the method is working and a plan for putting it into regular use. The bill also allows the Department of Defense to spend money helping other countries' maritime forces fight illegal fishing and organized crime.
