Firearm Access During Shutdowns Act of 2025

This bill would require certain federal agencies to keep working on firearms-related tasks even during a government shutdown. Specifically, the FBI would have to keep running its background check system for gun purchases, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would continue its enforcement work, and parts of the Commerce and State Departments would keep processing applications for exporting firearms and related products. The bill does this by officially classifying these activities as related to the safety of human life or the protection of property, which means the employees doing this work would be required to stay on the job during a shutdown.
