AIM Act

This bill would remove a number of rules that currently limit what the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) can do when enforcing federal gun laws. For example, it would allow the ATF to centralize gun dealer records, keep background check records longer than 24 hours, conduct more compliance inspections of gun dealers each year, and use firearms tracing data more freely. The bill would also make it easier for the ATF to deny or take away a gun dealer's license by lowering the standard from a "willful" violation of the law to a "knowing" one, and it would change how courts review those decisions by giving more weight to the ATF's determination rather than starting the review from scratch.
