Back the Blue Act of 2025

This bill creates new federal crimes for killing, trying to kill, or planning to kill federal judges, federal law enforcement officers, or state and local public safety and judicial officers whose agencies receive federal funding. It also makes it a crime to assault certain state or local law enforcement officers or to flee to avoid being prosecuted or held in custody. The bill limits how federal courts can review challenges to state court convictions for killing a public safety officer or judge, and it limits the money and legal fees someone can recover in a civil rights lawsuit if the person was committing a serious crime at the time. It also expands the ability of federal, state, and local law enforcement officers to carry firearms, including allowing qualified officers to carry concealed guns in school zones and certain public federal buildings.
