Household Goods Shipping Consumer Protection Act

This bill gives the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration more power to fine moving companies, brokers, and freight forwarders who break the rules when shipping people's household belongings across state lines. It requires these businesses to have a real physical office location and to be upfront about any family or business connections they have with other companies in the moving industry. The bill also lets states use certain federal grant money to help enforce these rules and allows states to keep the fines they collect from that enforcement.
