Keeping All Students Safe Act

This bill would stop schools and Head Start programs that get federal money from locking students alone in rooms they cannot leave, a practice called seclusion. It would also ban certain types of physical restraints, like ones that restrict breathing, and only allow physical restraint when a student is in immediate danger of seriously hurting themselves or someone else. Schools would need to have trained staff, follow specific steps after any restraint incident, and states would have to create and enforce new rules around these practices. The bill also lets students or their families take legal action if these rules are broken, allows the government to cut funding to programs that violate the law, and sets up grants to help states carry out these requirements.
