Rebuild America’s Schools Act of 2026

This bill provides money to help fix and improve public school buildings across the country. It creates a grant program based on need so that local school districts can make major repairs, improve air quality, and make schools accessible to people with disabilities. Schools that get money for new building or renovation projects must follow certain safety codes, use environmentally friendly practices, and use American-made iron, steel, and other products. The bill also brings back a type of tax credit bond for school construction, creates a new Office of School Infrastructure and Sustainability within the Department of Education, extends a program that helps fund school construction through 2031, and sets up a separate grant program to help schools fix foundations damaged by a material called pyrrhotite.
