Fighting Trade Cheats Act of 2026

This bill makes the penalties much tougher for people who cheat or are extremely careless when bringing goods into the United States and violating customs laws. It raises the maximum fines to up to three times the value of the merchandise and bans people who commit fraud from importing goods for five years, or two years for those who are grossly negligent. These bans also apply to family members, employees, and other people connected to the violator, and violators lose their ability to participate in certain customs importing programs. The bill also lets businesses that are harmed by this kind of cheating take legal action on their own.
