21st Century WIC Act of 2026

This bill would permanently let people sign up for the WIC program — which provides food assistance to women, infants, and children — by phone or video call instead of having to go in person. It would also allow states to mail or send WIC benefit cards to people remotely, rather than requiring them to pick up or reload their cards at a WIC office. Right now, people generally have to show up in person to prove they qualify and get their benefits, though temporary exceptions were made during COVID-19. The bill also requires the Department of Agriculture to report to Congress on how remote tools and digital technology are being used in the WIC program.
