TEMP Act

This bill requires the federal crop insurance program to research and develop a new type of insurance policy that would protect certain crops — like tomatoes, peppers, sugarcane, strawberries, melons, citrus, peaches, and blueberries — against losses caused by frost or cold weather events. Instead of requiring farmers to file a claim, this insurance would automatically pay out when the temperature drops to a certain level. The research must look at how well these tools work for rare but severe weather events and must result in a policy that covers losses in production or revenue. This type of insurance would be available to farmers across the country.
