Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act

This bill creates a commission to study slavery in the United States and how federal and state governments supported it. The commission would also look at laws and policies that discriminated against formerly enslaved people and their descendants. It would then recommend ways the government could address the effects of slavery and discrimination, which could include a formal apology and financial compensation. The commission would include members chosen by the President, congressional leaders, and people from civil society and reparations organizations, and it must finish its work within one year of its first meeting.
