Balanced Budget Accountability Act

This bill would stop paying members of Congress their regular salaries if their chamber does not pass a balanced budget — one where the government doesn't spend more than it takes in and spending stays at or below 18% of the country's total economic output. For the current Congress, pay would be held back until a balanced budget is passed, but for future Congresses, members would be paid only $1 per year if they fail to pass one by the April 16 deadline. The bill also requires that any tax increases be approved by at least a three-fifths vote in both the House and Senate.
