STEAM Act

This bill makes it faster and easier to get approval for geothermal energy drilling by reducing certain environmental review requirements. It does this by allowing some geothermal drilling activities to skip the more detailed environmental studies normally required under federal law. This shortcut applies when the drilling happens in areas where drilling has already taken place within the past five years, or in areas where an approved land use plan already identified drilling as a likely activity within the past five years.
