SHIELD Act of 2023

This bill creates new federal crimes related to sharing sexual images without permission. It makes it illegal to knowingly send or share intimate images of a recognizable adult without their consent, especially when the intent is to cause harm, and it sets penalties of up to two years in prison, fines, or both, along with required payments to victims. It also makes it illegal to send or share nude images of a minor with the intent to abuse, humiliate, harass, or degrade the minor, or for sexual gratification, with penalties of up to three years in prison, fines, or both. In both cases, materials and property connected to the crime can be taken away by the government.
