Fair SHARE Act of 2025

This bill would add a new $1,000 tax on the sale of electric vehicles and a $550 tax on the sale of large battery modules (over 1,000 pounds) used in electric vehicles. The money collected from these taxes would go into the Highway Trust Fund, which pays for road and transportation projects and is normally funded by taxes related to transportation. The tax would apply to rechargeable electric cars and light-duty vehicles weighing less than 8,500 pounds, but it would not apply to hybrid vehicles that run on a combination of fuel and a rechargeable battery.
