Healthy SNAP Act of 2025

This bill would change the rules about what foods people can buy using SNAP benefits (sometimes called food stamps). It would stop people from using SNAP to buy soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts like cakes, pies, and cookies. The Department of Agriculture would be required to create and regularly update a list of approved foods that are nutritious and promote health, taking into account things like fat, sugar, and salt content as well as different cultural eating patterns. States could swap in different foods with USDA approval, as long as those foods are equally nutritious.
