I CAN Act

This bill lets health care providers like nurses and physician assistants do some tasks under Medicare and Medicaid that previously only doctors could do. For example, nurse practitioners and physician assistants could sign off on special shoes for people with diabetes, oversee certain heart and lung rehab programs, and certify that a patient needs to stay in the hospital. The goal of these changes is to expand which types of health care providers can handle these responsibilities within Medicare and Medicaid.
