Retirement Security for American Hostages Act of 2025

This bill would let Americans who were held hostage or wrongfully detained in another country count that time toward their Social Security benefits. For the months they were held captive, the government would treat them as if they had earned an average American wage, so their benefits wouldn't suffer because they couldn't work during that time. To qualify, the State Department or the Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell must have officially recognized the person as having been wrongfully detained or taken hostage abroad. The person must apply for this benefit, and it only kicks in if it would result in a higher payment than what they'd get without it.
