DEFENSE Act

This bill lets the Department of Homeland Security or the Department of Justice give state or local police officers the power to deal with drones that are seen as threats near stadiums, large outdoor events with at least 100,000 people, or other public gatherings with special flight restrictions. These officers could track drones, warn their operators, take control of drones, or even use reasonable force to disable or destroy them. Before getting this authority, officers must complete special training, and federal agencies would oversee how the authority is used. The bill also limits the equipment officers can use to detect and track drones to items on an approved list maintained by federal agencies.
