First Responders Wellness Act

This bill creates a national mental health hotline specifically for first responders like firefighters, paramedics, and police officers, as well as their families. The hotline would be run by a government health agency and staffed with specialists who can offer peer support, help with mental health and substance use problems, and connect callers to other services. The bill also expands an existing disaster counseling program so that emergency workers responding to major disasters can receive mental health services, not just the victims of those disasters. Finally, the bill requires the government to look into setting up mobile health care sites that could provide crisis services to emergency workers at disaster scenes.
