Helping Heroes Act

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create a program called the Veteran Family Resource Program, which would help veterans and their families deal with challenges that affect their health and well-being, such as access to housing, food, or other basic needs. The VA would have to assign at least one "family coordinator" in each of its regional health care areas to serve as a go-to person at VA medical centers, connecting veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors with helpful VA and community resources. The VA could also expand the program to more medical centers over time. Additionally, within one year of the bill becoming law, and at least every five years after that, the VA must survey disabled veterans and their families to better understand their needs.
