Empowering Families in Special Education Act

This bill requires local school districts to inform parents that they have the right to bring other people with knowledge or expertise about their child to the meetings where their child's individualized education program (IEP) is created. An IEP is a plan designed to make sure a child with a disability gets a free and appropriate public education. Current law already allows parents to include these additional people on the IEP team, but this bill adds a requirement that schools must actually notify parents about this right.
