Expanding Local Meat Processing Act of 2025

This bill would require the Department of Agriculture to change its rules so that smaller meat processing companies can own, fund, or help run livestock auction businesses that sell animals on commission. Right now, there are restrictions on this, but the bill would allow it for processors that slaughter below certain amounts of cattle, sheep, or hogs per day or per year. The bill also requires that when a livestock auction business has a financial or management connection to a meat processor it sells animals to, it must tell the seller about that relationship and identify the processor by name on the sale receipt.
