Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act

This bill changes a federal road safety program so it can also pay for projects that connect bike and walking paths and improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians in high-risk areas. It allows the federal government to cover up to 100% of the cost for certain safety projects that protect bicyclists and pedestrians, such as adding bike lanes, walkways, and better crosswalk visibility. Normally, states have to pay a share of these transportation projects, but this bill would let the federal government pay for the full cost if the projects meet specific safety requirements.
