HEIRS Act of 2025

This bill requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create two grant programs to help people who inherit property, especially when the previous owner didn't leave a will. The first program gives grants to states that have passed laws protecting inherited property owners from being forced to sell, and the money helps people with costs like legal fees, land surveys, title searches, and estate planning. The second program gives grants to housing counseling agencies, law school legal clinics, and nonprofits so they can offer legal help, financial assistance, and counseling to people who inherited shared ownership of property and need help keeping their homes or clearing up ownership issues.
