Tyler’s Law

This bill, called Tyler's Law, requires the Department of Health and Human Services to study how often hospital emergency rooms that accept Medicare test overdose patients for fentanyl, how much that testing costs, and how it affects patients. After the study is done, the department must put out guidance on whether emergency rooms should make fentanyl testing a standard part of treating overdose patients, how to make sure doctors know what substances they are testing for in drug tests, and how fentanyl testing might affect a patient's future risk of overdose and other health outcomes.
